Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
